Pinhole Surgical Technique
Receding gums is becoming more and more prevalent in the patient population. When gums recede, it exposes more of the underlying root of the tooth which is thinner and more prone to destruction. This causes sensitivity, uncomfortable root fillings, unaesthetic look and if left untreated can result in tooth loss. When gums get thin enough, even normal oral hygiene like brushing and flossing can damage the tissue.
The first thing we must address is the cause of the gums receding. Gums can recede due to periodontal disease, grinding/clenching your teeth, misaligned bite/crooked teeth, hormonal changes, medications and aggressive tooth brushing. Once we identify the cause and control it we can help restore what has been lost.
Grafting has a similar negative light associated with it as root canals. Everyone has a friend or a family member with a horror story associated with these procedures and mentioning these often brings about anxiety. The Pinhole Surgical Technique allows me to eliminate all the negativity surrounding grafting and offer a Scalpel-Free, Suture-Free, Graft-Free treatment option for Receding gums.Since there is no cutting or stitching, patients can expect minimal post-operative symptoms (pain, swelling, bleeding). Patient’s are pleasantly surprised by the instant cosmetic improvement.
